Location of Chapwani Private Island, Zanzibar

This Zanzibar island resort is run with eco-friendly principles in the interests of conservation and environmental integrity.

Chapwani Private Island is situated north-west of Zanzibar town, reachable by a comfortable 20 minute boat ride. There is a free mid-morning boat transfer to Stone Town which returns again at lunchtime, alternately, this Zanzibar island resort can arrange independent transport at other times on request.

Whilst on holiday at Chapwani, guests can explore the island and discover its rich flora and fauna on a nature trail that winds past the inland lake. Wildlife that can be seen include White Heron and Dik Dik, a resident pair of Eagles and the almost extinct giant Crabs. At low tide there is a lovely show of starfish immersed in the coral reef and many rock pools brimming with marine life.

Zanzibar Town is characterised by a labyrinth of lanes filled with houses, shops, bazaars and mosques. Influences include Arabian, Persian, Indian and European Colonial. For a long time the town was an important point on the spice route and a centre for the trade of ivory and slaves.

Guests at this Zanzibar island resort will find there is plenty to see and do in town. Amongst some of the most interesting places to visit are the ancient Persian Baths, the Portuguese Fort, the Palace of Wonders, the old Slave Market, the Jamituri Gardens and the House of Livingstone. The tropical forest of Jozani in the south of Zanzibar Island is a protected area filled with rare species.
