Incorporating an area of 34 000hectares, Onguma Game Reserve originally formed part of the greater Etosha Game Reserve. The reserve borders Fisher’s Pan on the eastern side of Etosha. Onguma has 3 dry riverbeds, sections of bushveld, savannah, omuramba and dry pan.
The reserve is a hub of active wildlife, with over 30 animal species and more than 300 bird species. Summer attracts thousands of migratory species to the wetlands that have been created by seasonal rains. The reserve also boasts Namibia’s largest breeding colony of white-backed vultures.
Free-roaming wildlife includes herds of plains game, and predators such as lion, leopard and hyenas. The reserve also protects a healthy black rhino population.
Onguma Game Reserve has a private airstrip from which private air charters can be arranged. A road transfer of 20 minutes the delivers guests to the safari lodge in open safari vehicles.
Namibia is the ultimate destination for road trips and Onguma Game Reserve can be reached via a self-drive.
From Windhoek, take the B1 to Tsumeb. Continue towards Ondangwa, and turn left onto the C38 towards the Namutoni entrance gate to Etosha National Park. There will be an Onguma sign on your right, approximately 50m before the Etosha National Park Von Lindequist Gate. Turn right, and drive for 9km until you reach the camp.
