Experiences at Le Mirage Resort & Spa
Sesriem, Sossusvlei, Namibia

Explore the Desert Dunes

If you’re slightly concerned that you may get a bit bored “in the middle of the desert," you needn’t worry. Le Mirage Resort & Spa is just 21km away from one of the main attractions of Namibia: the Sossusvlei salt pan. You can drive there on your own or you can opt to join a guided drive which departs from the resort. Along the way, you’ll witness some of the world’s highest dunes, and even some petrified dunes, too.

See Sesriem Canyon

Another iconic attraction to experience during your time at Le Mirage Resort & Spa is the Sesriem Canyon which was carved out by the Tsauchab River. In length, it runs about a kilometre long and rises up to 30 meters. The canyon is located close to the Sesriem gate, making it easy to reach after coming back from a trip to the Sossusvlei.

Discover the Dead Vlei

During your visit to the Sossusvlei, with its contrasting red dunes and white salt pan, you can also explore the Dead Vlei, which is probably one of the most intriguing places in the world. This pan used the be a lake that dried out hundreds of years ago and is now characterised by dark, dead camel thorn trees which poke out of the ground like skeletons. If you decided to self-drive, you’ll need to use one of the shuttles once you get to the end of the tarred road, unless of course, you have a 4x4 and know how to use it.

Soar Over Soussesvlei

A hot air balloon excursion adds an exhilarating dimension to your visit to the desert and can easily be arranged during your stay at this Sossusvlei desert lodge. These are conducted in the early morning when there is no wind, and just in time for sunrise, when the entire landscape bursts into a joyful scene of yellow, orange and then bright red. This experience is a must for photographers and couples seeking a few romantic elements included in their Namibian getaway.
