Enjoy scenic views of Fish River Canyon in the southern parts of Namibia. It is the 2nd largest canyon in the world and the largest one in Africa.
The Fish River Canyon in Namibia
is 160km (100 miles) long and about 27 km (16 miles) wide. In the rainy season, the pools are normally filled with water. During the arid summer months, the river bed is either completely dry or has just some puddles left. You are lucky to get a picture of the actual river flowing in the canyon during the months of May and September.
This gigantic ravine was created by the longest river in Namibia, the Fish River, and by a collapse of a valley due to movements in the crust of the earth. Here, you will marvel at the eroded sandstone cliffs with their over 550m drop into the gorge.
