Sanctuary Olonana is idyllically located on a private stretch of the Mara River in the Masai Mara Conservation area in the Mara Triangle, Kenya. This area is well known for its rich diversity in plant and animal life. This African safari lodge is situated on the banks of the Mara River.
This is a Big Five country, so expect lots of fascinating sightings of Lion, Buffalo, Leopard, Rhino and Elephant. The Masai Mara is also home to the traditional Maasai people, and you will get a chance to visit their village and learn about their rich culture and interesting way of life on your African safari holiday.
The Masai Mara is home to an abundance of wildlife. With 1510 square kilometres of open savannah, woodlands and tree lined rivers, the Masai Mara's eco system supports a huge number of birds and mammals.
Lion are dominant in this area, as well as Elephant, Giraffe, Gazelle and Zebra. Cheetah and Leopard are also regularly spotted going about their daily business - looking for prey or relaxing in the African sun.
The Masai Mara also forms part of the spectacular Wildebeest migration, an event that takes place between July and October each year. Watch as the drama unfolds before your eyes as millions of Wildebeest and Zebra make their way to greener pastures as hungry predators lie in wait.
Guests can fly or drive in to the Masai Mara and it is a 4 and a half hour road journey from Nairobi. The most convenient and pleasant way to travel is to take the daily 45 minute flight from Nairobi's Wilson Airport direct to Olonana's private airstrip where you will be collected in a game viewing 4X4 vehicle. Your luggage may weigh a maximum of 15 kilograms in a soft bag.
