This is the only place in Africa to see this tiny creature, and a guided night drive on the eastern shores is your best bet for spotting one.

One thing you simply must try during your stay at Lidiko Lodge is a boating experience through the estuaries of iSimangaliso. Led by knowledgeable guides, you’ll quickly gain a deeper understanding of Africa’s largest estuarine system with a few up-close encounters with the resident hippos, crocodiles and birds. Turtle Time
The coastline of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park is the only remaining major nesting site in Africa for loggerhead and leatherback turtles. From the months of November to March, you can visit the nesting sites on guided tours which depart from St Lucia and Cape Vidal.

The malaria-free Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Park is just an hour’s drive from Lidiko Lodge and if you’re not already planning on visiting, a day trip will prove well worth your time. All the members of the Big 5 reside here, and you can do your own self-drive or you can let us set you up with an expert field guide who knows the park like the back of his hand.
Go Scuba
Sodwana Bay is located north of iSimangaliso and is considered as one of the prime dive spots in the world. It boasts an incredibly dense coral cover and supports a wide variety of fish and marine life. There are plenty of dive centres located in the area who can help arrange dives suitable for all levels. As for non-divers, the main beach is ideal for some picnicking and casual fishing.
