iSimangaliso Wetland Park was previously known as the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park and is on the east coast of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa.
The park stretches along 280 km of coastline and is made up of natural ecosystems in this third-largest protected area in South Africa. Included in this area are marine sanctuaries and reserves, Lake St Lucia, Sodwana Bay National Park, Mkuze Game Reserve and Tembe Elephant Park.
iSimangaliso Wetland Park will be included in the Transfrontier park which will straddle South Africa, Mozambique and Swaziland. This world heritage site has a rich biodiversity, natural beauty and unique ecosystems.
The ecosystems range from coral reefs, sandy beaches, savannas, wetlands and subtropical dune forests. There are dolphins, whales, marine turtles and leatherback and loggerhead turtles in the sea and on land you will find elephants, black and white rhino, leopards, buffalo and other species.
Sodwana Bay is well known for its coral diversity and fish species and therefore a famous spot for deep sea diving.
