Big 5 Wildlife Safari at Cheetah Plains

At Cheetah Plains, you can indulge in twice daily private game drives and guided bush walks in the wildlife-rich Sabi Sand Game Reserve.

Off-Road Game Drives in the Sabi

The Sabi Sand is one of the best places to witness predators hunting and animals following their instincts here regardless of their observers. A number of endangered species have also made the reserve their home, and visitors to the area are often given a rare glimpse of honey- badgers, ground hornbills and African wild dogs. The guides at Cheetah Plains are exceptional, and you’ll be amazed at how they can talk on the radio, spot animals and drive at the same time.

Move with the Pace of Nature

While the experience of encountering large game on 4x4 drives is hard to top, what you’ll find during bush walks in the Sabi is just as memorable, and unexpected. On a bush walk, you’ll uncover the finer details of the veld often overlooked from your seat on a vehicle. You’ll and come to appreciate the art of tracking; using scat, spoor and other subtle “signs” left behind by all sorts of animals. A guided birding tour is also very worthwhile – there are 500 recorded species in the reserve.

Time Out at the Lodge

While guided bush walks and 4x4 game drives are the top safari highlights at Cheetah Plains, the site where the lodge is built is strategically located near a waterhole where elephants, antelope and other animals come for a drink or bath. The main occupants are of course the hippos, who can be seen soaking during the day and grazing on the banks at night. Grab a book and sit by the pool, where a snap of a twig or a quick flutter of birds will soon draw your attention.

Fine Dining in the Bush

From high-tea to dinner under the Milky Way, Cheetah Plains promises a luxury experience of the highest order, and mealtimes are no exception. Since each villa comes with its own private chef, you’ll find yourself seated in front of the most delectable array of dishes prepared to your liking. The atmospheric bush setting too is hard to top, as is the selection of South African wines and local beverages.
