The reserve forms part of the Makalali Conservancy and offers an in-depth experience for bush-lovers seeking more than the classic Big Five wildlife safari encounter. Garonga Safari Camp is situated west of Kruger National on the banks of a dry riverbed with exquisite views.
Daily direct flights into Garonga from Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport. Garonga Safari Camp offers transfers from and to both Phalaborwa and Hoedspruit airports. Short light aircraft, lodge hops from Kruger Mpumalanga airport direct to the Garonga airstrip are also available.
Please note that the gates close at 18h00 in Summer (September - April) and 17h30 in Winter (May - August). You will need to be at the Dirt Road turnoff by 17h00 at the latest in order to reach the gates before closing.
From Johannesburg take the N4 past Witbank, turn off the N4 to Belfast From Belfast go through Dullstroom towards Lydenburg Through Lydenburg and through Orighstad After going through the JG Strijdom Tunnel measure 10km (6.2 Miles) then turn left on the R36 towards Tzaneen Travel 10km (6.2 Miles) on the R36 then turn right at the Phalaborwa sign - travel for about 25km (15.5 Miles) Turn left at the "T" junction Go past Mica village, just the other side of Mica, turn left towards Tzaneen Measure 15km (9.3 Miles) from the turn off, Then you will see a Garonga Safari Camp sign on the left-hand side of the road Turn left onto the dirt road and follow signs to the lodge.
