Lake Malawi is a marine reserve which was established to protect the Cichild Fish and their habitat. Here, the Lake Malawi National Park presents Cichlid enthusiasts with superb observation opportunities in terms of diversity and number of species, ease of access from both islands and amazing viewing conditions.
At the islands, the focus is more on observing the little creatures than watching the Big Five. The Spotted Necked Otter and Cape Clawless Otter are the only mammals present on Mumbo Island. The Spotted Necked variety is remarkably unafraid of humans and often approaches and joins guests for a snorkel or swim. Mammals at Domwe Island include Samango Monkey, Bushpig, Civet Cat, Klipspringer, Bushbaby and the yellow subspecies of Chacma Baboon.
Guests can participate in exciting sea kayaking tours on Lake Malawi or walk on nature trails. As fish is abundant, snorkeling as well as scuba diving is very successful and satisfying. If you just want to relax, take your time off in the hammock.
