The great thing about staying at Chundu Island is that you can explore it on foot if you fancy the opportunity to stretch out your legs. An armed guide will take you out either in the early morning or late afternoon to discover the intricate eco-systems of the reserve. Since walking is a lot stealthier than ambling along on Land Rovers, it's a prime opportunity to get in some birding.
At Chundu, you can also paddle down the Zambezi River for a couple of hours under the watchful eye of a qualified river guide. From your canoe, expect to see all sorts of animals and water birds along the river edge. This serene and easy activity hits the sweet spot for couples and those who want to keep their game watching as relaxed and easy-going as possible.
Chundu Island offers both early morning and late afternoon safari drives through the Zambezi National Park. In the interests of conservation, no off-road driving is permitted, but that's not to say you won't discover a wide range of creatures. The guides know the area incredibly well and will do their utmost to locate lion, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, eland, kudu, waterbuck, impala and Zimbabwe's national animal – the sable.
There's plenty to do at Chundu with sunset cruises, canoeing, fishing and stargazing topping the list. But, if you want to step off the island for a bit, we can also arrange a visit to the local village, or get you a real bird's eye view of the Victoria Falls via private helicopter, or microlight flights. Whatever your thrill, we'll help you find it.
