Activities at Mount Meru Game Lodge & Sanctuary

Guests can enjoy walks to surrounding villages and farms, game viewing in the sanctuary and views of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru during their Tanzania safari.

Cultural Experiences

Cultural and educational visits to local surrounding villages and coffee farms can be arranged for guests on their Tanzania vacation. The tour guide is very knowledgeable where local culture and traditions are concerned.

Taking a walk along the Usa River offers guests the chance to witness first hand what life in rural Tanzania is truly like. They can inspect local housing conditions, take a look at the workings of a local school, visit stalls and shops and wander through the markets which are held there on a daily basis.

During the course of their walks, the guide teaches a few Swahili words to the guests at Meru Game Lodge. This enables them to exchange greetings with the local people. This is very much enjoyed by guests and very much appreciated by the people they come across.

Nearby Recreational Activities

The Kilimanjaro Golf and Wildlife Estate is situated in close proximity to the lodge, offering a round of golf on a well-known 18 hole championship golf course .

Sport lovers will enjoy the recreational facilities at the Nduruma Polo Club. There is a swimming pool, gymnasium, tennis courts and of course, polo fields. After a game or two, visit the club house for drinks and a light meal.

Encountering Wildlife

While on your Tanzania vacation you can also enjoy sightseeing tours to some of the natural forests and scenic spots in the area. Each walk is carefully planned according to your wishes.

As an added bonus there are different forms of African wildlife and birds which populate the area to be seen, such as Bushbuck, Duiker and even troops of Colobus Monkeys. These walks at Mount Meru Game Lodge & Sanctuary in Arusha, Tanzania, are offered free of any charge to guests of this Tanzania lodge and can be booked through reception between the hours of 9.00am and 6.00pm.

The Game Sanctuary

The main emphasis of the game sanctuary is to provide a safe haven for Tanzanian plains game and bird life. These include Eland, Ostrich, Waterbuck, Zebra, Buffalo and the enormous variety of birds which come to feed, breed and enjoy the unique freedom offered by our very safe environment. The majority of the animals were once either orphaned or badly injured and were brought to the sanctuary for rehabilitation.
