Excursions

Game viewing activities are conducted in the nearby Kruger National Park, which is one of the most eminent game parks in the world. The Paul Kruger Gate is only 42km and the Phabeni Gate into Kruger Park only 12km away from the Kruger Park Lodge.

The 65m high Mac Mac Falls is located about 13km from Sabie on the R532 road towards Graskop. Originally, this waterfall was a single stream. Gold miners blasted it with dynamite to divert the river in an attempt to work the rich golf-bearing reef over which it plunges. A cement pathway with many steps leads to the viewing platform above the falls.

In 1873, Pilgrim's Rest was declared a gold field. The valley proved to be rich in gold and by the end of the year, there where about 1500 diggers working in this area. As a result, Pilgrim's Rest became a social centre of the diggings.
