Shumba Tented Camp in Zambia stands in the heart of a beautiful wilderness surrounded by the open Busanga floodplains and wetlands. High concentrations of game thrive in this very favourable environment containing permanent water sources, seasonal delta system and miombo woodlands. Birdlife is prolific with almost 500 species recorded in this area.
Guests at this tented camp in Zambia have 360 degree views of the landscapes where herds of Lechwe, Puku and Wildebeest roam, accompanied by predator species including Lion and Wild Dog. Shumba means Lion in a local dialect and was chosen due to the predominance of huge prides, up to 20 strong which inhabit the plains.
Shumba Camp sleeps just 12 guests in luxury. Under a canopy of fig trees, the tented suites and central guest areas are arranged to maximise the sweeping views. Plush sofas and chairs provide welcome places to sit back and relax while enjoying the magnificent scenery in comfort. The camp is elevated with wooden decking and has an elegant bar and plunge pool.
Game viewing activities are always a personalised experience, with guests benefiting from the in-depth knowledge and enthusiasm of expert guides. Game viewing activities take place in and around the Busanga Plains in Kafue National Park during the day and at night on game drives. Glorious hot air balloon safaris take place during August to October. Specialist birding safaris and full day outings are also offered.
Shumba Camp is closed seasonally between 01 December and 30 April each year.
