In 1994 the fences came down between the Klaserie, and the Kruger National Park, allowing animals to roam freely between the reserves. The Klaserie Private Game Reserve attracts a wide variety of birdlife and predators. Spot African wildlife on expert-led game drives that depart Misava Safari Camp in the mornings and late afternoons - the perfect time for game viewing. From elephants and hyenas (often seen right outside the camp fence) to prides of lion, and of course, skulking leopards, if you’re lucky.
Bird watching during daily bush walks proves especially rewarding, with over 350 species recorded in and around the Klaserie. It’s a budding bird-lover’s dream with sightings such as the Southern ground hornbill to the hooded vulture, now rated with a conservation status as “critically endangered”. You’ll also witness plenty of birds back at camp too, especially while sitting poolside in the afternoon, crisp drink firmly in hand.
Whether you’re enjoying a casual stroll around camp or ambling out on a game drive, you’ll quickly notice scatterings of gorgeous Marula trees, red thorn, wild teak and umbrella thorn. As the reserve encompasses the Klaserie River, it offers a uniquely diverse habitat with a lower public profile than some of the other reserves in the Greater Kruger. The presence of water also creates the perfect habitat for birds, amphibians, hippos and crocs, which will no doubt be some of your game viewing highlights.
