The Garden Route is a must for avid self-drivers visiting the Western Cape. Known for its farm-to-fork-dining, sublime coastal views and leafy national parks, it also winds through the local towns of Mossel Bay, George, Wilderness, Sedgefield, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay which all prove well-worth a stopover.
There is plenty to do along this iconic route, and the Garden Route Game Lodge is a great add-on to the itinerary, especially if you are looking for an easy-to-reach safari experience. The private reserve on which it is located is not only malaria-free, but is home to a bounty of birds and animals.
You can even see all of the Big 5 here, which proves that there is no need to travel all the way to the Kruger to tick them off your bucket list.

Take the N2 highway out of Cape Town and head east for 348 km.
When you reach a small town called Albertinia, after an addictional 7 km you will find the entrance to the Garden Route Game Lodge.
