Game Viewing Activities

Bush Safari

Take a bush safari in an open game vehicle on your Garden Route holiday to a panoramic lookout point where refreshments will be enjoyed while taking in the natural beauty of the environment. Game viewing on horseback is also an option – guests will be escorted by a trained guide to get a closer view of game roaming the vast, undulating hills. Wildlife you may see include Hippo, Eland, Giraffe, Buffalo, Springbok and more. Night game drives are also available.

Guided Walking Safari 

Take a guided nature walk into the veld and learn about the Karoo succulents and fynbos, or enjoy some bird watching on your Garden Route holiday.

Elephant Encounters

Elephant feeding offers an opportunity to interact with the elephants and get to know these gentle giants on your Garden Route holiday. The 3 elephants at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge were orphaned and have been given sanctuary in the reserve. Elephant interactions are for educational purposes. Please note that elephant back-safaris and walking with elephants are not permitted at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge.

Lion Feeding Experience

Buffelsdrift Game Lodge received 3 lion cub who were born in captivity and can therefore never be released into the wild. They were relocated to Buffelsdrift Game Lodge where they have ample space to roam. Embark on the Lion Feeding Experience as you journey by game vehicle to a specially designed 5-hectare lion enclosure.

From an elevated viewpoint, you'll get an incredible close-up of these majestic creatures as a trained game ranger feeds them right before your eyes. Along the way, you'll discover fascinating insights into lion behaviour, making this an informative and unforgettable wildlife encounter.

Meerkat Safaris

Greet the meerkats as they emerge from their burrows at dawn and monitor their behaviour alongside a knowledgeable guide.

Weddings at Buffelsdrift

The Karoo Wedding Chapel is a tiny wooden chapel with a thatched dome, situated on the edge of the natural waterhole and a wide wooden deck as an entrance to the intimate little chapel.

This deck serves as a seating space for 50 wedding guests witnessing the bridal couple exchanging their wedding vows. The chapel is ideal for romantic country weddings.

Buffelsdrift Conferencing

The Buffelsdrift Conference Venue at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge is in the heart of the Klein Karoo at the foot of the Swartberg Mountain Nature Reserve – South Africa’s 6th World Heritage Site.

This venue is available for a maximum of 100 delegates and has the latest AV technology. The venue is ideal for conferences, seminars, motivational speakers, team building, presentations and social events.

The conference venue at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge is situated on the edge of a natural water hole with a wide wooden deck.  Providing the ideal setting for Bush Breakaways, Conferences, Team Building Sessions and Incentive Getaways.

Star Gazing

Spend your nights at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge admiring the night sky of the Karoo. The Karoo experiences great weather all year and evenings spent outdoors are pleasantly relaxing.

Dining

The excellent Buffelsdrift Restaurant offers an à la carte or buffet menu that specialises in local Karoo cuisine that includes homemade preserves, chutney, pickles, fresh produce and herbs from the area as well as a variety of freshly baked oven bread.

The selected wine list is a true representation of excellent South African wine and offers guests some of the best award-winning wines on the R62 – the longest wine route in South Africa.

The open-air bar is situated next to the conference venue and is an extension of the wooden deck. The bar offers a variety of soft drinks, spirits and a wide selection of local wine and port.

The neighbouring town of Calitzdorp houses 3 of the top wine estates on the R62 - also known as 'The Port Capital of the World'.

Curio Shop

The Buffelsdrift Curio Shop is a reflection of the best local arts and crafts and provides the tourist with an interesting selection of mementoes of your Garden Route holiday. Beautiful, stylish Ostrich leather products are also on sale.
