Likomo Island is the biggest one of the two islands in Lake Malawi ( also known as Lake Nyasa). The island is entirely surrounded by Mozambican territorial waters that are exclaves of Malawi. The whole island in total is 18 km.
The coast of Likomo Island is varied with sandy bays, swamps and rocky slopes. There are a large number of mango and baobab trees on the island. The Fauna is composed mostly of amphibians, reptilians and birds.
The only town on Likomo Island has a huge cathedral called St Peter’s Cathedral which was built in 1903 and is of the largest churches in Africa.
Likomo Island also has the most beautiful beaches and coves which are the best diving and snorkelling in Malawi. You have a choice of different accommodations of which there are luxury resorts as well.
Some of the activities on Likomo Island include birdwatching, cycling and mountain biking, fishing, quad biking, walking and trekking, boat trips, kayaking, sail boarding, sailing, snorkelling and water skiing.
