Croquet and Boule, Which Will it Be?
When you’re not lazing by the pool or relaxing at the spa, Valley Lodge & Spa boasts its own croquet if you’re up for a quick (yet gentle) knock around. Adding to this old-school, countryside fun, they also have metal boule balls available at reception for you to use as and when you please. If you really want to go all out, there’s also a full-sized billiard table, a pool table and foosball over at Maloney’s Bar.
Look Out for Birds and Animals
The reserve surrounding Valley Lodge & Spa is stocked with zebra, impala, dassies, vervet monkeys and bushbabies, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled throughout your stay. Avid birdwatcher? You’re in the right place. You’ll also encounter an abundance of bird life with hundreds of species having been identified here and listed for your convenience. Picnic hampers can also be requested and served at the dedicated bird sanctuary, or alongside the river.
Trek Along the Trails
During your stay at Valley Lodge & Spa, don’t forget to spend some time exploring the grounds, either on your own or in the company of friends. You’ll quickly discover a number of well-marked trails that meander through the most beautiful natural scenery. Take your pick from the Steenkoppies Trail (3.5 km), the Zeederberg Trail (3.5 km), the Riverine Trail (1.5 km), or the super-easy (almost too easy) Bird Sanctuary Trail (500 meters).
Try a Little Fly Fishing
For the fly fishing enthusiasts, Valley Lodge & Spa also offers both riverine and dam fishing on a catch and release basis. The only ‘catch’ is, you’ll need to bring your own equipment with you when you come to visit. We can also arrange special guided tours of the waterways during your stay, as well as boats and canoes for those looking to explore the Magaliesburg River.
