Kick Back in Knysna
Knysna, at the heart of the Garden Route, is renowned for its lush, indigenous forests, tranquil lakes and golden beaches. Its Thesen Island waterfront and lagoon offers a range of bars and eateries, and is an absolute must-visit for families and romantics. We also recommend a cruise to get a closer view of the town's most famous natural landmark which comprises two dramatic sandstone cliffs (or heads) located between the Knysna lagoon and the Indian Ocean.
Brenton Beach Life
Brenton-on-Sea main beach just on the doorstep of the resort stretches out 5km to Buffalo Bay and is perfect for a beach day with the kids, a picnic, or a sunset walk with your loved one to explore the dunes and surrounding fynbos. It’s safe to swim in certain areas but you just need to be mindful of rip currents, and if you’re bringing your fishing rod, Castle Rock is the place to go. You’ll see that most of the locals tend to hang along the shore to catch cob.
Try a Few Day Trips
While staying at Brenton Haven Beach Resort, set aside at least one day to explore. Take a drive through to Sedgefield and Wilderness, and you’ll eventually end up in George, known for its golf courses and The Outeniqua Transport Museum, featuring a collection of steam trains and vintage cars. Plettenberg Bay, or “Plett”, as the locals call it is just 30km away and if you have the kid in tow, be sure to take them to visit the Monkeyland primate sanctuary.
Stretch the Legs on a Trail
Many delightful walks and trails can be found both along the coast and in the forests of the greater Knysna area. The closest one is called the Fisherman’s Walk and meanders along coast of Brenton-on-Sea. There are also plenty of longer (well-marked) options cutting through the Knysna forest which range from between two to six hours in duration (depending on your fitness levels, of course).
