Directions to Chestnut Country Lodge

Travelling from Johannesburg via Pretoria and on to Sabie via the Long Tom Pass (scenic route) Toll Roads: Diamond Hill AND Middleburg Plaza.

From Johannesburg travel North along the N1 (Ben Schoeman Highway) towards Pretoria. Before Centurion Park (at Bulmer Breweries), take the off-ramp to Pretoria East/Pietersburg.

Continue along this highway until you see the N4 Witbank turn-off to your left. Take the N4 Witbank turn-off and travel along the N4 past Witbank and Middleburg. Once past Middelburg you will see signs to Belfast - take the Belfast turn-off to your left. Follow signs through the towns of Belfast to Dullstroom, Lydenburg and then on to Sabie via the Long Tom Pass.

If it is not misty, you will enjoy spectacular views along the Pass.Travel through Sabie and at the T-Junction at the top of town, turn right and continue to travel straight out of Sabie (R536) to Hazyview. The road winds quite a bit and is very beautiful.

Travel for approximately 35km. You will pass a tarred road going right signposted Kiepersol – do not turn here - continue past. Take the next Kiepersol turn-off to your right which is approximately 10-15km on from the first Kiepersol road - this is a dirt (untarred) road.

A landmark just before our road is a little green and white farm produce stall called Pat's Stall (do not confuse PADSTAL - which is Afrikaans for road stall - with Pat'S Stall) on your right hand side - our road is about 500m past Pat's Stall to the right.

There is also an official brown signpost indicating Chestnut Country Lodge right as well as another sign saying Kiepersol. Travel up the dirt (untarred) road for approximately 2.7km. The road is not always in good condition, especially in our summer, due to heavy seasonal rains so drive slowly and carefully. You will soon see the entrance to Chestnut Country Lodge on your left hand side.

Travelling from Johannesburg via Pretoria (N1) or Johannesburg International Airport to Nelspruit (N12) and onto the N4 to Witbank (slightly quicker - more direct route).

From Johannesburg travel North along the N1 (Ben Schoeman Highway) towards Pretoria. Before Centurion Park (at Bulmer Breweries), take the off-ramp to Pretoria East/Pietersburg, Continue along this highway until you see the N4 Witbank turn-off to your left. Take the N4 Witbank turn-off and travel along the N4 past Witbank and Middleburg.

If you are coming from the Johannesburg International Airport, take the N12 to Witbank. This highway will link up with the N4 at Witbank which you follow on to Nelspruit which is approximately 2 hours drive.

As you arrive into Nelspruit you will travel through 2 traffic lights. At the third traffic light, turn left - this is the R40 to White River. As you turn left, you will pass a large new shopping complex on your left.

Travel approximately 20km to White River. Drive all the way down the main street of the town and turn left at the last traffic light. (This road is signposted R40 to Hazyview and has signs indicating the way to Kruger National Park). Follow this road for approximately 30km (maybe a little more). Do not turn off until you see the official brown tourism sign for Chestnut Country Lodge.

Turn left at the road marked Kiepersol (Landmark: As you turn left there is a little orange stall on the right hand side). Travel for approximately 7,5km (the road is straight at first and then takes a wide sweep to the right. Continue along this road until you see the next brown tourism sign for Chestnut Country Lodge and turn left. There is also a sign saying Emmett which is the name of our road.

The road begins as a tarred road but soon becomes untarred. The road is not always in good condition, especially in our summer, due to heavy seasonal rains so drive slowly and carefully. You will find Chestnut Country Lodge approx. 1,7km down on the right hand side.

Estimated travelling time from Johannesburg: 4-5 hours (travelling within the speed limits). Total distance: Approximately 430km.
