Victoria Falls Steam Train. Garratt class 14A locomotive No. 512
Live the dream and view the Victoria Falls by steam train! You'll experience a sunset like no other and see one of the most unforgettable sights in the world. With an exciting agreement between Zambia and Zimbabwe in place, the Victoria Falls Steam Train Company has developed a unique and historic activity for visitors at this wonderful destination. The authentic steam train No. 512 is a class 14A Garratt and one of the last of its kind still in use in Africa.

This steam locomotive was designed and built by Beyer Peacock in the United Kingdom at Manchester in 1953. The train consists of a boiler with a steam engine mounted on either side plus vintage carriages which offer dining, bar and lounge facilities with different configurations depending on requirements.

The Steam Train Experience

All tour options depart from the station opposite the Victoria Falls Hotel in Zimbabwe. The steam train crosses the historic river bridge and travels into the adjacent Big Five Zambezi National Park in Zimbabwe. Half way across the bridge the train stops so that guests can admire the spectacular views while enjoying chilled refreshments and delicious gourmet delights.

The Victoria Falls Bridge is over 100 years old and built across the mighty Zambezi River which is the natural border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. The bridge, which is 111 metres (364 feet) above the water, is actually 'no man's land'. From the carriage you will experience full views of the Victoria Falls and a stunning sunset if you cross at the end of the day.
