Wheelchair Accessible Transport

Catering for two wheelchairs and three passengers the Toyota Quantums have been adapted to accommodate quadriplegics. They have been fitted with a hydraulic side-lift that assists passengers in their wheelchairs onto a customised platform alongside the vehicle, providing easy access and exit facilities. Professional wheelchair friendly chauffeurs are available 24 hours a day in Cape Town, Durban and Gauteng.

Hand control vehicles are available for the mobility impared persons wanting to self drive. A hand control is fitted on a group D (automatic) only. Please note booking in advance is essential because it takes time to fit these controls.

Driving in South Africa

All vehicles drive on the LEFT hand side of the road in South Africa. Wearing a seatbelt is a must. If there are seatbelts in the back seats, then passengers must make use of them. The roads are well sign-posted regarding speed limits and things to take note of. Please note that the laws are very strict about drinking alcohol and driving.

Take note that you must have a valid driver's license printed in English. If you do not meet these requirements, please make sure to get an International Driving Permit before coming to South Africa.

Petrol (Gasoline) Filling Stations

Filling stations are situated throughout the country. Make sure that you have enough gasoline between filling stations. Unleaded and leaded petrol is available throughout the country. Most of the filling stations are open day and night. So, renting a car in South Africa is usually trouble free.

Mobile Phones

It is illegal to operate a mobile phone whilst driving.

Transport in South Africa

Please note that while South Africa does have a good public transport system, it is not up to international standards. You can phone up a taxi (cab) service which are usually reliable. However, to get around with total freedom, car rental in South Africa is recommended.
