Sabi Sand Game Reserve is known as the most prestigious game park in South Africa. It shares a non-fenced boundary of 50 km with Kruger National Park and got its name from the Sabie River boundary in the south and the Sand River that flows through it.
The Reserve is made up of a group of game reserves in the Lowveld of Mpumalanga, South Africa.
The Sabi Sand Game Reserve has 145 mammal species including the Big Five as well as numerous other species, birds and plants that are indigenous to the area. These species of plants, animals and birds can either be seen at the lodges, waterholes or on any of the many morning and evening game drives that all these South African safari lodges offer. The reserve is well known for its numerous leopard sightings.
This privately owned reserve offers game drives tracking the animals off-road, which is very popular with guests, because they are not restricted by rules. Sabi Sand Game Reserve accommodation is offered in various award-winning designs, exclusive safari lodges and camps with some of the lodges only for use by landowners and shareholders of the reserve. For flights the nearest airport is Skukuza airport just inside the Kruger National Park.
