Game Viewing at Ants Nest

The Waterberg is an untouched area of great historical abundance and guests are urged to venture out and explore.

Ant's Nest offers unforgettable wildlife experiences on horseback, walking safaris and game drives for the whole family. Other fun activities include mountain biking, archery, fishing, running trails and stargazing.

Horseback Safaris

With a herd of almost 90 horses made up of big thoroughbreds, Arab-boerperd crosses and children's ponies, horseback safaris are a must when visiting Ant's Nest in Limpopo. You will be led by two competent guides and an emphasis is on safety at all times. For those who have never ridden a horse before, there are basic lessons available to get you to feel comfortable on a horse and then venture out onto safari.

Guided Walks

For those are prefer to venture out on foot, guided walks are ideal. While the guides lead you through the bushveld on a very informative and interactive safari walk, you can gain knowledge of the African fauna and flora as well as learn how to track wildlife by their spoor.

For the energetic guests, you can go on a hike over the plains and up gorges through the private reserve and learn what plants are used for certain medicines and why. There is also a children's bug hunt at the camp.

Game Drives

Ant's Nest offers game drives in the morning, afternoon and evenings in open 4x4 safari vehicles. On an evening game drive, the guide will use a spot light to help you spot nocturnal animals in the reserve, such as the rare brown hyena, aardvark bushbaby and porcupine. Game drives are ideal for seeing more wildlife as more ground can be covered within the reserve. Guests can combine both Game drives and walks to make game viewing and photography more exciting.

Family Safaris

Ant's Nest family safaris cater to children of all ages, with children over the age of 4 being allowed to join their parents on all game viewing activities giving parents the opportunity to experiences their child's first encounter with wildlife. A selection of ponies are available for both beginner and experienced riders as well as horse riding lessons.

Unfortunately children under the age of 4 years are still too young to go out on a long ride or walk so they will be kept at the lodge on their own special pony ride in and around the lodge. Specialised bug and spoor walks have been created for the children. Children are also welcome on open 4x4 game viewing safaris.
