Location of Old Mondoro

Located in the Muchinga escarpment of the Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia, where the bush is more open, Old Modoro is ideal walking safari country.

An inspiring joint venture between the owners of Chiawa Camp and Sausage Tree Camp, Old Mondoro Bush Camp was opened in 2002 and is the only bush camp in the Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia.

The Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia lies in the scenic river valley between rolling hills of a hazy escarpment and the mighty Zambezi River, Africa's fourth largest river system.

The park covers a wide area but the escarpment acts as a kind of barrier keeping most animals in the bottom of the valley. Thus, in the Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia, you have a choice between close encounters with the animals, or viewing them from a distance where the beauty of the valley is spectacular all on its own.

Whilst the rest of the Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia, is on higher ground with thicker bush and large inland lagoons, this part is typically made up of vast flood plains and open woodland ideal for walking and game viewing opportunities.

A canvas and reed lounge / bar area overlooks a maze of islands in the Zambezi River, as does an imaginative outdoor toilet. Turn around in your seat and you look across the mature open woodland of the Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia and some of Africa’s finest walking country!

Old Mondoro is a one hour motor boat ride, or a 2 hour game drive, or an 8 hour canoe trip away from Chiawa Camp, also within the borders of the Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia. Jeki Airstrip is only a 30 minute game drive away but Royal Airstrip is nearly 3 hours away.

Old Mondoro is 35km downstream from Chiawa Camp so canoeing from Old Mondoro to Chiawa Camp is not available.
