The Safari Experience at African Game Lodge

Guests are never bored at African Game Lodge, with activities including nature drives, guides walks and hikes, horse riding, rock art, mountain biking, fishing and the unique Cheetah Conservation Programme.

There is never a dull moment at African Game Lodge during a South Africa safari. With so many exciting and memorable activities on offer, guests are sure to return to the place they have grown to love so much - African Game Lodge.

Special Functions

African Game Lodge welcomes guests for corporate getaways and conferences in a relaxed environment. Small groups of 8 - 15 delegates can be accommodated at the lodge and a separate conference room is available. There are also breakaway facilities, a data projector and screen on request.

Wedding ceremonies can also be held in the bush, and a honeymoon chalet is available for the bridal couple. The lodge hosts intimate wedding ceremonies of up to 50 guests, and a maximum of 30 guests can be accommodated in the chalets.

Nature Drives

This afternoon drive ventures out in search of the various antelope species on the reserve. The drive includes a stop at the Red House - the ruins of the first settlers in the valley.

You will encounter some of the rarest and most spectacular flora unique to the Klein Karoo, as well as an impressive variety of antelope, including Blue Wildebeest, Springbok, Gemsbok/Oryx, Eland, and numerous bird species.

Game Drives

This morning activity introduces safari-goers to a prolific bird life on the reserve, as well as the various plains game. The drive also visits the ancient rock art of the San and Khoi people.

Walks and Hikes

At African Game Lodge you have the option of exploring the area on foot during a two hour guided hike. This hike will include teachings on various medicinal values of some flora and viewing some great examples of unique plant specimens indigenous to the area.

A guided fossil and caves hike takes you to the Gannaleegte Fossil Trail which consists of interesting vegetation and beautiful scenery. Trace fossils in the bedrock before climbing up to the Bobbejaan Caves to see fossilized ripple rock.

You will also come into contact with the smaller creatures of the Klein Karoo, as well identifying the tracks of larger animals. For the less adventurous, an one long guided walk along the river beds and valleys proves both scenic and rewarding.

Mountain Biking

For guests who are more energetic and active, mountain bikes are available to explore the area along specific routes, while retaining your fitness regime.

Fishing

Trout fishing has become a favourite activity in the Western Cape and is now possible at African Game Lodge. Cast your rod on the still waters of the dam and let the fresh air and complete tranquility of the area inspire your senses.

Please Note: Guests who want to fish are required to bring along all their own fishing gear and supplies as fishing equipment is not supplied by African Game Lodge.

Bird Watching

Guests looking for a tranquil experience, enjoy rewarding bird watching around the dams in various hides, strategically placed for excellent bird watching opportunities.

Cheetah Conservation Programme

Spend time with the fastest mammal on earth, the majestic Cheetah. African Game Lodge offers you the opportunity to get up close and personal to these amazing creatures, one of Africa's endangered species.

Presently, African Game Lodge is home to two Cheetahs living in a specially constructed Cheetah enclosure. Observe the movements and actions of Khula and Thanda, or watch them being fed in the mornings and evenings.

Karoo Nights

Head out on a sunset hike and stop for sundowners as you watch the sun disappear in a burst of colour. A traditional 3-course South African meal and a glass of Montagu Muskadel is served before your guide introduces you to the shimmering Southern Hemisphere skies.
