Places in Hardap
The Hardap Dam and Hardap Resort lie 250km south of Windhoek in Namibia. At 30km long, the dam is Namibias largest man-made lake and has much to offer in the way of recreation. Hardap Resort is situated on the northern bank of the dam, the flat roofs of the buildings simulating the surrounding flat-topped hills.Namibia
Perched on a cliff overlooking the dam, the circular glass-fronted restaurant affords a spectacular view over the water, as do most of the bungaloes. Probably the most prominent (and only redeeming) feature of Hardap is the location of it's restaurant, which juts out from a rocky outcrop above the dam. From the veranda overlooking the water you can see the dassies (rock rabbits) play, while you wait for service.
The Hardap Dam is close to Mariental in southern Namibia and is surrounded by a game park which is home to several antelope species, zebra and birds. The game reserve is divided into two sections. A circular day walk in the north-western section offers keen nature lovers a closer look at the environment, whereas the largest concentrations of game can be found in the southern section. As there are no dangerous predators you can walk freely around the park, there is an 15km hiking trail, which can be shortened to a 9km loop. See Hardap accommodation in Namibia below.
