Location of Crater Forest Tented Camp, Ngorongoro

This tented camp is close to the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania which is steeped in history and home to an incredible variety of wildlife.

Crater Forest Camp is 10km (6 miles) from the main road between Karatu and the legendary Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. The camp overlooks the verdant Ngorongoro Crater Forest which is part of the Conservation Area.

Karatu is the main town in the northern highlands region and all visitors going to the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti pass through here. The bustling town stands next to the extinct volcano of Ol Deani, a prominent feature in the surrounding landscape.

The Ngorongoro Crater is actually a type of collapsed volcano. Visitors descend from the crater rim through a lush rain forest and thick vegetation onto the grassy plains of the crater floor where fabulous game viewing can be enjoyed. Statuesque Maasai people reside just outside of the crater ridge, tending to their cattle and goats and living alongside wildlife as they have for centuries.
