Experiences at Stonecutters Lodge

Stonecutters Lodge offers many activities to keep you busy, including fly-fishing clinics and pleasant walks.

There are 2 well-stocked dams and 3 kilometres of river. Fly-fishing clinics can be organised and team building and competitions arranged around this theme. Additional relaxation activities are available in the area or on request: archery, clay pigeon shooting, golf, horse riding, etc. There is no levy for fishing. Catch and Release is encouraged, all river fish are to be released. Only barbless hooks may be used.

The landscape lends itself to various pursuits: A hike up the mountain is rewarded by breathtaking views from the summit plateau, and there are many pleasant walks including a stroll along the picturesque 3 kilometres of river.

There are numerous destinations on the farm where one can picnic or barbeque in an idyllic setting. Bird watching is most rewarding and 'twitchers' are encouraged to add to the impressive bird list! Lydenburg, 15 minutes from the farm, offers golf, tennis and bowls.

Take a memorable journey in this fascinating and most scenic part of the world. First stop Dullstroom, which is a vibrant, bustling little village of the Highlands Meander that has much to offer the discerning traveller, with its many galleries, shops, restaurants and home crafts.

The area is a haven for nature lovers, with cranes, birds of prey, world acclaimed wetlands, magnificent examples of beech and elm trees and splashes of colour from the veld flowers that bloom after the first spring rains. Discover 'off the beaten track' places such as, Tonteldoos - one of those magical little country places. Onto the Draaikraal valley, an absolute Garden of Eden in autumn when the cosmos is in flower, before travelling over the Steenkampsberg, where one is awed by the ruggedness and vastness of the landscape.

Surrounded by the Steenkampsberg and Drakensberg mountains, Lydenburg lies at the foot of Long Tom Pass. Replicas of the famous Lydenburg Heads, an early example of African sculpture, can be seen at the small museum. Lydenburg today supports a large rural and farming community. Its temperate climate, proximity to the Mpumalanga Escarpment and Lowveld make it an ideal tourist destination.
