Where is Joys Camp, Shaba National Reserve

Home to Penny the Leopard from the last book by Joy Adamson, Shaba National Reserve, Kenya is a magical place.

Shaba National Reserve in Kenya adjoins Samburu and Buffalo Springs Reserves; they share the same eco-system and landscape. At Shaba guests can see for miles across the spring fed plains and rugged hilly terrain.

Located 314km (195 miles) from Nairobi, in the eastern corner of the Samburu eco-system, Shaba National Reserve, Kenya was for a time the home of Joy Adamson, author of the best selling book Born Free which was later made into a much loved film. Joy wrote her last book from her base in Shaba (the site of the current camp) about Penny the Leopard.

Shaba Reserve is home to a wonderful array of wildlife including, Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo, rare desert species of Beisa Oryx, reticulated Giraffe and Grevys Zebra as well as the Somali Ostrich and Generuk.

Guests here can enjoy a secluded idyll, off the beaten track, peaceful and with a rugged landscape that has many natural springs. The Ewaso River and gorge is a great setting for bush meals and big blue skies.
